HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE PEOPLE OF GUINE-BISSAU
People of Guine-Bissau possess a strong concept of community that has allowed the maintenance of fraternity between the guinneans, not only in its own territory, but also in all places of the world where its’ citizens are found.
When we relate to our community concept, we want this to highlight the great necessity of creating a Guine-Bissau Association in England where all individuals are represented. However, barriers exist which has made it difficult for the integration of the national individuals of Guine-Bissau to reside in this country.
Amongst all of the problems we encounter, we can distinguish the English language as the most crucial social factor creating a hindrance for guinneans to inhabit a society of refuge.
The encumbrance the English language barrier creates for our community can be identified as:
Access to information,
Access to the labour world
Difficulties in applying for further education (mainly university).
Therefore, with the intention of addressing this array of problems, the option has arisen of creating an Association of this nature. The purpose is to work arduously for the Guine-Bissau community, as well as restructuring the Bissau-Guinean society to enable unification and create supportive networks and empower individuals. Also, the Association will aid in disseminating our rich culture.
The bilateral relations between Guine-Bissau and England; politically, economically and socially, are almost nonexistent. The creation of the Association appears to work as a catalyst that can allow the English society and its’ Maximum Representatives to recognise our social and cultural values as a community and facilitate this in such a way that allows a friendship to sprout between the peoples and states.
The journey can be difficult, but victory is possible, as long as we grasp the basic principles, being –
Unity between all Bissau-Guineans
Maintain constant and open communication
Maintain respect for differences, and
Humility.
